Which electrical and mechanical specific values can be assumed with foil keyboards?

According to DIN 42 115, we have determined the following values for the standard execution „FOIL KEYBOARD in SILVER CONDUCTING TECHNIQUE with snap domes“:

Electric installation/electronics:

Turn-on voltage min./max.

1-42 VDC

Switching current min./max.

0,1mA to 100mA

Breaking capacity min/max.

2mW to 0,6 W

Leakage resistance

More than 100MOhm

Internal resistance

Typ. less than 100 Ohm (depending on the geometry of the conductor paths)

Contact resistance

Less than 1 Ohm

Switch capacity

Less than 20pF

High-voltage resistance

300V within the circuit
500V with respect to the metallic base plate

Mechanics:

Key stroke/shifting travel

Approx. 0,3-0,5mm depending on the embossing

Operating force

1,5N to 6N depending on the snap dome and the foil

Duration of bounce

Less than 10ms

Service life

More than 1 m switching cycles

Temperature/humidity:

Storage temperature

-40° C to +80° C

Storage time

1 year at room temperature

Operating temperature

-20° C to + 70° C

Humidity

Up to 65% at 60° C (interior)

Typ. IP65 front side

These values are minimum values which are usually even exceeded in standard-production application.

If the construction is modified, e.g. FOIL KEYBOARD on PRINTED CIRCUIT BOARD, SHORT STROKE KEYBOARD etc., the above values may vary accordingly. In case your specifications require other values, e.g. a tropicalised execution, we would recommend that you contact our development department to look for advice.
